Our Mission

Our mission is to empower survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. To increase emotional and physical safety through advocacy, education, and trauma-informed services.

The Refuge Utah (formerly The Center for Women and Children in Crisis) is a nonprofit rape crisis center and domestic violence service provider serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking throughout Utah, Juab, and Wasatch Counties. Since 1984, we have stood alongside survivors in moments of crisis and throughout their healing journeys offering them safety, advocacy, and hope. We believe every person deserves to live free from violence and fear. Our services are survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and provided at no cost.

Our Approach

Survivors are the experts in their own lives. We prioritize empowerment and choice, providing trauma-informed support in spaces where survivors are believed, respected, and supported. Our advocates offer compassionate guidance and options that honor survivor autonomy and resilience.

Our services are free and available to anyone, regardless of insurance or when the abuse occurred. We support individuals who have experienced any form of abuse, including coercion, control, or lack of consent, not only physical violence. No experience is “too small” to reach out for support.

Our Community

The Refuge Utah is supported by a passionate board, dedicated staff, over 120 trained volunteers, community partners, and donors who believe in a future free from violence. Together, we respond to emergencies, advocate for survivors, and work to break cycles of abuse.

Our Impact

Each year, hundreds of survivors turn to The Refuge Utah for safety and support. Through crisis intervention, shelter, advocacy, and prevention efforts, we help survivors move from crisis toward stability and healing while also working to build a safer, more informed community.
