The Refuge Utah is committed to protecting the safety, privacy, and confidentiality of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
We follow strict confidentiality standards required by federal and state law, including the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA). These laws prohibit domestic violence and sexual assault service providers from sharing personally identifying survivor information without informed written consent except in limited circumstances required by law.
Confidential Shelter Locations
Some programs operated by The Refuge Utah include confidential locations. To protect survivors and their families, emergency shelter locations are not publicly disclosed.
Survivor Confidentiality and Service Information
The Refuge Utah collects limited information from individuals receiving services. Information may be stored in a secure encrypted database accessible only to authorized staff. All staff and volunteers sign confidentiality agreements and receive privacy training.
