Saves Lives | Donate Today
Join Refuge supporters from around the state who have pledged to help us protect adults and children from violence. From individual therapy to safe housing to children’s services, all of our work begins with YOU. Your support helps us offer safety, advocacy and education for survivors of sexual assault and domestic volence. When you give to The Refuge, you are turning trauma into triumph, despair into determination, and fear into courage every single day. Thanks to your support, none of our clients have to face their challenges alone. Thank you!

Volunteers
Dear Prospective Volunteers
Dear Prospective Volunteers,
We are always excited to hear from people who are willing to volunteer and donate their time to these important causes! We need volunteers on our Rape Crisis Team, at our Domestic Violence Shelter, and as needed to support other programs as well. We ask for a six-month commitment so that you can gain the most from your experience with us. We love our volunteers and appreciate the work that they do in their roles. To get involved, the first step is to identify which area you want to help. The next step is sign up for and attend one of the volunteer training sessions we conduct throughout the year.
As a Shelter Volunteer, you will be working with domestic violence victims and their families as directed by our Shelter Staff, answering hotline calls, spending time with the children to give their parent a break and other duties that keep our shelter in operation. We ask that you donate at least one 2-4 hour shift (you choose your shift) on a weekly basis. We require 24 hours of training to become a Shelter Volunteer. See the contact information below to access the next available training session.
As a Rape Crisis Team Member, you will be working with sexual assault victims. Once a month, you will be on call with another volunteer with a cell-phone covering one shift which lasts for 24 hours. It can be done anytime (during the week or over the weekend) whichever works best for you though we are in great need of weekday volunteers. Your role will be to answer phone calls that come through our rape crisis hotline to speak with rape victims and to offer support by meeting victims in the hospital immediately following the attack. This is an opportunity to help someone who is suffering such personal violation. You must own a car and live in Utah County for this opportunity. The state requires 40 hours of training to be a Rape Crisis Team Member. See the contact information below to access the next available training session.
As a Housing Sustainability volunteer, you will be attending the Family Justice Center on Tuesday nights at the Health and Justice building in Provo. These volunteers talk with crime victims that are referred to us and complete an intake assessment to gather details and information that our program coordinators will use to assist them in finding housing. These volunteers will need to attend the same 24 hour training as the shelter volunteers.
Background checks are also required for all volunteers working with our organization. The fee for the background check for the state of Utah is $38.25. This fee is a one-time payment and is due on the first night of training in cash or check written to The Center for Women & Children in Crisis.
Training will be located at our Outreach Office: 1433 East 840 North, Orem, Utah.
Volunteering at the Center for Women and Children in Crisis will be a rewarding experience for you, not to mention a great place to receive internship hours, fulfill school service requirements, build resumes, get experience for graduate school, or most importantly, simply taking the time to help others in a crisis. Thank you for your consideration and interest in these causes.
Please contact us for questions about this volunteer opportunity. We hope to hear from you soon and see you at our next training!
Thank you
